Sandy has developed extensive experience in law and public and private real estate funds management in a career that spans over 30 years. After qualifying as a lawyer in 1988, Sandy worked for a number of leading fund management houses both in Australia and abroad.
Sandy’s experience includes asset management, public company analysis and evaluation, legal documentation, property securities funds management, listed and unlisted property funds management including the acquisition, disposal and development of property assets and real estate business management.
Before founding Waypoint Legal in 2017 and specialising in estate planning, Sandy worked with the experienced team at Allsop Glover Lawyers with a focus on property, trusts and estate planning.
Sandy was previously the Chief Operating Officer of RF Capital (a family office) where he had responsibility for day to day operating activities, capital transactions, financial oversight and overall administration of the business as directed by the Principal.
Prior to his time at RF Capital, Sandy was the Managing Director of Calibre Capital Limited, a boutique property funds management business he co-founded in 2004.
Sandy’s experience includes CEO of Principal Real Estate Investors (Australia) Limited managing a $2.2 billion real estate portfolio, Head of Property Securities and Head of Listed Property – Colonial First State Investment Managers (Australia) Limited, responsible for portfolios of property securities and assets of $1.2 billion and $1.7 billion respectively.
Sandy has been a director of numerous real estate company boards including the boards of single responsibility entities. Sandy previously served on the Capital Markets Committee of the Property Council of Australia and the Australian Property Institute (API) FINSIA Committee and has served as a member of the UTS Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building (DAB) Dean’s Industry Advisory Board since 2014 and as its Deputy Chair in 2015 and 2016. Sandy was a fellow of the Australian Property Institute for 15 years from 2000 and was a judge on the API judging panel for its NSW ‘Excellence in Property’ annual valuation awards for 4 years from 2010 to 2014.
Sandy has been a proper authority holder since 1996, has met the annual training requirements of an Australian Financial Services Licensee since 2001 and was independently assessed as PS146 compliant in 2002. He was the Calibre Capital Limited compliance officer and company member of the Calibre Capital Limited independent compliance committee. In 2016 Sandy completed the Kaplan Responsible Manager (Generic Knowledge) online training course.
Sandy is admitted both as a solicitor by the Supreme Court of NSW (holding practicing certificate No. 68760 issued by the Law Society of NSW) and as an attorney by the High Court of South Africa. Sandy is a fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is also a licensed real estate agent in NSW.
Sandy is currently a non-executive director on the board of Evolution Trustees Limited.
